A Lifetime of Learning

The Canadian Combat Arts Association was founded by Brad Schmidt, a lifelong martial artist dedicated to preserving traditional principles while adapting them to today’s world.

With more than 30 years of martial arts experience, Brad has trained extensively in Canada and Japan, earning the rank of 7th Dan in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. His training at the Bujinkan Hombu Dojo in Noda, Japan, included successfully completing the Godan (5th Dan) Sakki Test, personally administered by Nagato Sensei.

Today, the Canadian Combat Arts Association provides practical martial arts, self-defence, and Canadian Firearms Safety training through the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC), all rooted in respect, responsibility, and real-world application.

Whether your goal is personal development, practical self-defence, or responsible firearms education, every student is welcomed into an environment built on humility, discipline, continuous learning, and mutual respect.

From Tactical to Practical.

Preserving Principles. Adapting to Reality.

Teaching Philosophy

Martial arts is more than learning techniques. It is a lifelong pursuit of discipline, humility, adaptability, and personal growth. Every class is an opportunity to become a better student, training partner, and person..

What Students Can Expect

Training is conducted in a respectful, welcoming environment where traditional principles meet practical application. Whether you are stepping onto the mat for the first time or continuing a lifelong journey, every student is encouraged to learn at their own pace while striving for continual improvement

Why I Teach

The Canadian Combat Arts Association was founded to preserve the values and lessons that have shaped my own martial arts journey. My goal is not simply to teach techniques, but to help others develop confidence, character, and practical skills that extend beyond the training floor.
